“Waiting on Your Boaz”: Everything Wrong With How We Read Ruth

MUST READ: it’s amazing how I read the book of Ruth Multiple times and watched movies about her story and couldn’t find where she waited for him like they most people claimed. Wow!

For those of you who have been around here for a long time, you know that I have a strong affinity for a biblical hero named Ruth.  She’s one of two women to have an entire book of the (canonically accepted, sorry Judith!) Bible dedicated to her story.  She’s one of the very few women mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus, and she’s awesome.  She’s in fact, very very awesome.

So how come this is how we’re taught to read Ruth?:

Seriously, what the hell? Seriously, what the hell?

We should definitely be encouraging women to avoid partnering with neglectful or violent men, when they can be spotted (sometimes you just don’t know until it’s too late). We should moreso be encouraging men and women both to speak out against sexual violence, without constantly placing the blame collectively upon women’s shoulders, but I digress.  Having fallen victim to dangerous men in the past, sexual violence one…

God’s approval is better than man’s applause. #Blog

There is an old expression that states, “Don’t be so heavenly minded that you are of no earthly good.” Clever and catchy cliché, isn’t it? In fact, just this past week, as I was preparing to put on a movie with my girls, I heard a conversation between 2 Preachers Kids from a reality TV shows where one told the other that she has no earthly good because she is too committed to God and she shouldn’t declined an invite for a party over serving at a ministry her church. Hahah! This is so me tho!😊

The only problem is that these words are unbiblical. The Bible says, “Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth” (Col 3:2). Contrary to popular opinion, being heavenly minded always inspires us to be more earthly good. Thus, our goal as Christians must be to set our minds on things above and faithfully serve the Lord.

Paul thoughts us that God’s approval is better than man’s applause. In ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ – “Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise.”

Paul also instructed us how to regard ourselves and others, do not judge God’s servants in ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭5 – “Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.”

Prayer:

Dear Lord, Help me to continue to seek your approval, trust in you with all my heart and acknowledge you in everything that I do today. Create in me a clean heart. Shine your light bright into my heart. Show me your face oh God. Reveal yourself to me as I faithfully seek to please you in all that I today. In Jesus’ Name!
