But we are called to love one another like Christ loved us.

John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
We have heard this verse so many times, that maybe it has lost the depth of its true meaning.

Have you heard the saying, “We judge ourselves on our intent, while we judge others on their actions.”
But we are called to love one another like Christ loved us. WOW! That’s a giant task. Loving like Christ….which means that our love is unconditional. We love in spite of our misconceptions. We love in spite of all wrongdoing. We forgive, and we love anew.

There are some people that are downright horrible humans…for many reasons, you can fill in your own blanks. And yet, God calls us to love even them.

Isn’t it funny how we can love strangers more than people we know (and are supposed to love)? But sometimes the more we know about them, the less we even want to be around them. And yes, there are some people we are forced to love (and pray for) from afar.
But remember how much Christ loved us when we were most un-lovable; when we were least deserving. Golgotha’s Hill will forever be a monument to his undying love for us.

Love goes the extra mile. Love doesn’t say, “I love you.” It SHOWS YOU, “I love you.”

This year, let’s make a concerted effort to reach out to those that we know, those that we don’t know, and everyone in between…and show them the true love of God. Wouldn’t this world be a much better place if we replaced tragedy and violence with love and compassion?

Happy Wednesday!
